Congratulation World Triathlon

Recently, World Triathlon launched a Training Course, for their eligible coaches, with the title:

Testing and Benchmarking in Triathlon.

It's a very interesting course, which explores different testing protocols and tools.

At some point, it has the following disclaimer:

"Disclaimer: The limitations of the CPD Courses

This course provides important insights into testing and benchmarking, but it does not replace an academic degree in sport science. Professional coaches are highly encouraged to earn a university degree in sport science, which covers fundamental topics such as exercise physiology, biomechanics, and training methods. Only with this solid academic background can a coach confidently prescribe training plans and perform advanced testing."

We want to take a moment to congratulate World Triathlon on their recent announcement regarding the limitations of CPD (Continuing Professional Development) courses. This decision highlights the importance of a solid educational foundation for coaches in the sport of triathlon.

The announcement makes it clear that while CPD courses offer valuable insights into testing and benchmarking, they are not a substitute for a university degree in sport science. This is an important distinction. A degree in sport science provides comprehensive knowledge in key areas such as exercise physiology, biomechanics, and training methods. These subjects are crucial for coaches to design effective training plans and conduct advanced testing.
